[EGL7] Group Stage Concludes

We have finally concluded the Group stage of EGL7, and now head into the double elimination knockout stage. There are sure to be twists and turns as teams start to be knocked down into the loser’s bracket, whilst others will start to push on towards the winner’s bracket final.

The groups did not complete without a few shocks with none probably more noticeable than the Horizon team who managed to come back from a 7-0 CTF 1st map loss to Skitlite and win the game 3-2. They will be a team to look out for on the back of that, albeit they did lose to Infested in their last group game 3-1. It will be interesting to see which version turns up in the knockout stage as there is always the possibility they may pull a Nova from EGL5.

There was also a deal of controversy towards the end of the group stages when the reigning EGL champions RoughNeX took on bottom seeded CsC. No-one expected CsC to do well, and it would appear neither did RNX who did not appear to take the match seriously at all. This caused a bit of conflict in the stream chat, with a few people arguing that RNX weren’t showing CsC the respect they deserved. This is unfortunately one of the problems that occur with group stages, as you end up with matches that are really of little to no relevance. RoughNeX had entered the match in 1st place in their group, with CsC in last. CsC would have needed to 3-0 RNX to have had any chance of finishing higher than 4th, a feat that was almost certainly impossible. Unfortunately this led to the match not being taken serious by anyone, not even the CsC team for the most part.


Final Group Standings:

There will be no instances of that as we move into the knockout stages, as every match means something and as such all teams will be trying their utmost to progress as far as possible.

The first match in the knockouts will be Enigma versus Infensus, a matchup which has all the hallmarks of being a very tight affair.
