The Hunger Games - 6 If it wasn't for Jennifer Lawrence it would be lower, she's a genuinely great actress. I'm not sure I've seen 1 person carry a film more in what is meant to be an ensemble cast (Tucci is also great but tbh he's there as a cameo), her character was literally the only non-disposable one.
Didn't think she was that great in all honesty. Not that she was bad, but I don't think anyone really could have shone in such a poor film. Has she been in anything good? Or something that'd at least better showcase her talent?
Rain Man 9/10 Very moving. Dustin Hoffman was fantastic. Surprised I've never seen this film until now considering it was out the same year I was born.
Deserved Oscar nomination in Winter's Bone, highly recommend the film, enjoyed it on first viewing and liked it more the second time round. I agree about the quality of Hunger Games, but if they had put some lifeless mong (like all the other sub 25yr old actors in the film) in her role it would have been so much worse.
Keith lemon movie - 3. Basically was a complete let down, normally the guy is hilarious, but the film is utter turd. Definately do not recommend it.
Tekken 6/10 Good memories from the game + likes of eddie guerdo and yoshitmitsu look so much like they do in the game. Fighting is decent and girls are all fit.
Martha Marcy May Marlene - 8 Yet another independent film made on a budget of under $1mil that blows 90% of the $100mil blockbusters out of the water. Elizabeth Olsen is excellent as is John Hawkes (who has to be one of my favourite working actors). Not going to dwell on the story as anyone who wants to watch it will probably enjoy it much more without knowing what to expect, but what I will say is that it is really quite unsettling and deals with issues that are far more disturbing than any generic horror flick.
I was always really doubtful of watching that film but will give it a go the next few days I recently watched Intouchables: 7,5/10 The Chaser: 7,6/10 (also other good korean movies are madeo, memories of murder) Also some news about latest robocop suit, doesn't look to good to be honest http://www.movieera.com/News/Robocop.html
The Bourne Legacy 4/10 - started good, but ended up as a typical action movie. Very disappointed, mostly due to the quality of the previous ones.
Is it that good ? Won the ensors ( for the non belgium people around here thats the award for best film) tbh that could be expected, there is no way i'm going to watch this movie. They should have left the trilogy alone, same with the pirates of the caribbean, they just want to make some extra cash. Also Silver Lining Playbook with bradley cooper won the people's choice award at Toronto before argo. Either Argo wasn't as good as expexted or the other way around for silver lining playbook.
Judging from reviews Argo was as good as people expected (Ebert has it down for the best picture Oscar) but Silver Linings Playbook also got rave reviews and was a real crowd-pleaser. Most people are still expecting something like Argo/The Master/Lincoln to be the front runners come awards season but apparently De Niro and Lawrence are amongst the favourites for supporting actor and actress (or supporting actress, whatever they campaign for), personally I'm so pleased that De Niro has finally got another part that he can actually be proud of.
Lawless (7.5/10) - Nothing majorly new that hasn't already been done with a ganster-esque style movie, entertaining nevertheless, with some pretty good acting. Total Recall 2012 (3/10) - Fucking terrible; riddled with plot holes from start to finish. Also loads of little things I picked up on which piss me off in movies, an example being they're fighting in the underground elevator bay and when the protagonist escapes by jumping into a lift and going up god knows how many floors as soon as he walks out the woman is standing there with about 10 troops. How the fuck does that even work, fucking piece of shit that it was. Only plus side being it had pretty nice visuals, high budget no doubt but with shit ass writing. Edit: This is also very relevant to the movie.
Casino with Robert De Nero and Joe Pesci (That partnership fits so well) - 9/10 Could very well be one of the best live action movies I've seen all year.
Taken 2 - 8/10 it's fucking good, not as good as taken but sequels never are. Neeson is boss. Women are annoying.
Don't think anyone expects Oscars from Taken 2, it's slapstick action and Liam Neeson beating the shit out of Albanians. If you expect anything more you're a fool, I for one am going to love it.
I'm not exactly the biggest fan of Taken, for me the sole enjoyment of it came from some cool action scenes which entirely warranted the 15 certificate, you get what you get, Liam Neeson torturing Eastern Europeans. The fact that Taken 2 has been neutered to meet a 12A certificate, meaning any action sequences are shot through 'shaky cam' with the final blow being dealt whilst the camera is looking at the foot of a bystander, for me, completely nullifies the appeal of a sequel, if there was any to start with. That said, I'm now going to go and watch Neeson fight DDL in the opening scenes of Gangs of New York.
Taken 2 - 7/10 As Dons said. Easy watch, nothing groundbreaking, but decent entertainment. The taxi chase was funny, gets completely smashed up and takes its mirrors off, then 10 seconds later is a brand new car again Anyone else notice that?
YOU SHOULD WATCH : American psycho - 9 One of my favourite ever films. Whenever bringing this up IRL as being one of my fave films, others in the room are inclined look at me as if their thinking 'omg this guy is a weirdo' 'I think he wants to cut me in bed'. However, they are wrong. The film is a brilliant and intelligent dark comedy with splashing of gore and misogyny, set to a backdrop of overall ridiculousness which creates the perfect world for 'American Psycho'-unusually an attractive ( no homo) 27yr old, seemingly perfect wall street employee who, by night likes to remove women from their respective bodies. Christian Bale delivers my personal favourite performance as the 'American Psycho' who has in turn become one of my favourite ever characters. I think the main appeal of this film for me is that I can relate to the character in a strange way. Personally I feel that is something that was intended from the start, and on later viewings this becomes more and more obvious. Its important not to look at the film with any stigmas that the title may lead you to have. It is a unique and scarily accurate look at a cross section of 80's society, one that I find myself being reminded of when seeing some of modern days absurdness. Clip been posting like a mong thought would do something normal
